By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- APPROXIMATELY 24 hours after the government successfully passed amendments to stiffen penalties for firearm offenses, the police reported that three young men were shot and injured.

The incident occurred last evening (May 10) in Prickley Pear Alley between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., where Avian Huggins of Lower Thibou Avenue, Xavier Dore of Upper Market Street, and Davin Phipps of Lower Westbourne Ghaut sustained gunshot wounds.

According to the police, initial findings from their investigations suggest that the three young men were approached by two armed and masked assailants on a motor scooter opened fire in their direction.

The victims managed to escape the attack and were transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital in a police vehicle. Huggins sustained a wound to his right foot, while Dore sustained a wound to the right side of his chest. Phipps, meanwhile, was wounded in his right side and underwent emergency surgery.

All individuals are currently hospitalized and listed in stable condition.
