BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – BASSETERRE, transformed into a carnival-like atmosphere on Friday (June 26), a number of companies took their business to some of the most popular streets in order to take advantage of the exposure to the hundreds in the area.

The 25th anniversary of Child Month, along with the 13 Annual St. Kitts Music Festival, caused the streets of downtown Basseterre to become excessively busy and businesses benefitted greatly from the influx of prospective shoppers.

One of the major business players who quickly grasped the opportunity was the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla Trading and Development Company (TDC). The company set up shop in its Bank Street Parking Lot and attracted hundreds of passers-by to purchase items from its clearance sale.

Marketing Manager Jonelle Rawlins said that as recessional climate hangs over Caribbean economies, the company decided to cut back on some prices in order to ease the burden of its customers. Prices were reduced to up to 80 percent and, according to Rawlins, the response was “really good”.

“We do not just want to keep the items in the store on the shelves knowing that we can do something to assist the persons who desire the products and services, so we decided to have a clearance sale and prices have been reduced significantly as we make sure that everyone who shops at TDC is very happy,” she said, adding that it is “definitely a perfect time” with all the activities drawing people into downtown Basseterre.

Rawlins said the clearance sale was a way of showing the company’s customers that TDC is committed to giving back. She said the company tries to give its customers the most reasonable prices and the best deals, especially during this period of economic challenges.

“Now they know that TDC is giving back. They can see that we are giving back, so it’s not just talk. We are letting them know that we are actually giving back to our community and not only through this sale but also through sponsorships and donations to sports groups, churches, youth...in every aspect TDC contributes meaningfully to their social corporate responsibilities,” Rawlins added.

The continued activities are expected to bring great benefits to other businesses as they too attempt to maximise on every sale opportunity.
