Scotiabank launches Online Banking Service

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LILLIAN FLEMING, Assistant Manager, Sales Support at the Bank of Nova Scotia, informed SKNVibes that life for their customers would become much easier this month with the launching of the financial institution’s online banking services.

“The site went operational this Monday, June 9, and we intend to have a full-blown launch on the 23rd of this month,” said Fleming. “In the meantime, the site will remain fully accessible to our customers.”

Scotia Bank’s decision to begin online services resulted from the rapid growth of technology around the world, and especially in the Federation.

“It is the modern age,” said Leroy Carter, a Personal Banking Officer at Scotia Bank. “If you’re not involved in technology, then you’re not involved.”

Carter explained that online banking would be extremely beneficial to both Scotia Bank and its customers. “The main feature is that you will be able to manage your finances at home. We do enjoy talking to our customers on a day-to-day basis, but sometimes we are not as free as we would like to be. The online site will help with some of that traffic.

“Not only will you be able to keep track of your checking and savings account balances, but you will be able to manage credit card and other types of loans from the comfort of your home or office. Essentially, our customers will have the basic convenience of not having to travel all the way to our branch offices for every little thing,” Carter added.

In addition to being able to manage one’s bank accounts, Scotia Bank representatives stated that they were currently working with local merchants so their customers would be able to pay their bills online. The representatives added that this would likely help their customers better manage their finances and save more money.

With the advent of the online revolution, many persons have been hesitant about making access to their finances available online, but Carter assured SKNVibes that every possible step was taken to make sure their customers would be protected from identity theft.

“Security is one of the most important functions we addressed when designing our system. All of our data will be encrypted and we have taken many steps, such as security questions, to protect the log-in information of our customers, especially from a foreign computer,” he said. “The security measures we do have in place are the best out there and will reduce any risk for our customers.”

To protect their customers, a person must visit their local Scotia Bank branch or call a secure hotline to register for online banking.

Carter expressed his excitement about online banking, as well as his hope that it would usher in a new era of customer convenience. “The services are there; the features are there; we just need everyone to get online now and use it! We encourage anyone who does not have an account with Scotia Bank to come in and open one so they can reap these wonderful benefits.”

Persons interested in utilizing Scotiabank’s online services may either visit any local branch office or log onto www.stkittsandnevis.scotiabank.com/myway to learn more.
