It seems to be a natuaral occurence now in our Federation that some individuals are slapped with the charge of murder and thrown into prison without sufficient, or in some cases no evidence to substantiate this charge. It will keep on happening if we as a Society do not demonstrate ourintolerance to this unprofessional behaviour exhibited by many of our Law Enforcement Officials. Before going any futher let me make it abundantly clear that I am in strong opposition to all criminal activities, let alone murder. I am a firm believer that an individual should pay to the fullest extent of the law if he/she is involved in lawless/ criminal behaviour and activities. As the saying goes "If you do the crime, you sholud pay the time. However for heaven sakes if you have not comit any crime why put you in prison?
This thus leads me to the following questions: Does any police have the authority and right to charge anyone, no matter who the person is, for murder without any evidence linking that person to the crime? What is the role and responsibilty of the police in society? How can we as a people benefit by putting someone in prison because you are the police and you can do it? Isn't it not a waste of the taxpayers money to incarcerate an invidual who the police is fully aware has not commit a crime? Is spite and malice or I believe he/she did because of who he / she is is sufficient and just cause to put an individaul in prison?
Correct me if I am wrong but it is my opinion that the police is there for the safety and security of all in society-------------To Protect All No Matter Who You Are.
There should be the same treatment for the rich and affluent youth in Bird Rocks as it is for the youngster in the poor rural areas of St.Kitts. This is a democratic country, so I hope, and everyone should be treated fairly and equally under the law. I cannot help but wonder "What purpose it serves us as a society to lure us under the false sense of belief that a murderer is off the streets when the police is fully aware of the contrary? For police officers to deliberately waste the time and resources of our judicial system is certainly uncceptable and all police officers who are involved in this act should, I believe, should be held accountable for his/her actions. It is my earnest hope that all police officers take their responsibilty seriously and should therefore execute their duties meticulously.
As I ponder this serious situation I cannot help by asking myself "How many more of our youths have to suffer this unfortunate fate before something is done to stop it? With the current trend of crime on a steady increase should we expect anything less from the police but to apprehend the real perpertrators of crime and put them behind bars where they belong? The final question I leave with you therefore is "Do Officer Bergan and Sergeant Tyson ever thought of any of the preceeding questions before charging an individual for a crime? The response to that question I am dying to find out.
