Declared a world heritage site in 1999 by the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. Brimstone Hill Fortress is an excellent and well preserved example of British Military engineering executed by skilled African labour during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Once known as the Gibraltar of the West Indies this enormous fortress stands as a prominent reminder of a bygone era when colonialism rocked the shores of the Caribbean.
