Basseterre, St. Kitts, 19th July, 2007 - The first part of the Annual Conde Nast Traveller My Caribbean Essay Competition is over and St Kitts has a finalist.

Krystal Lescott, a 12-year old student of the Seventh Day Adventist Primary School was selected as the Finalist from St. Kitts. Three other students, Yenisia Henry, Shanicia Puran and Juvandy Clarke rounded out the top four. All four students hail from the Seventh Day Adventist Primary School

The topic of this years competition was Imagine you are the Minister of Tourism for your island. What would you do, and what projects could you create, to help bring locals and tourists closer together?
One suggestion Krystal made was that booths should be placed on Fort Street and the road be closed to vehicular traffic thus allowing visitors and locals to interact.

When asked why she entered she said, “I felt that this was a chance to develop my writing skills. I am happy I have won, because it is the first time I entered.”

Krystal won a trip to Puerto Rico to attend the CTO Conference (Caribbean Tourism Organization) CTC-30 in October. The grand prize winner will have his or her essay reprinted in a future issue of the Conde Nast Traveller. They will also receive prize money totaling US $2000 and a Certificate, Two runners up will each get a US $500 award, all courtesy of Conde Nast Traveller.
