BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - SANDY POINT has established itself as the town from which many talented lyricists and artistes in St. Kitts originate, and one of its most recent find is 21-year-old Cristal Liburd, a.k.a. Dime.
With her 2008 Valentine’s Day release [single], “I know you want it”, which features another artiste known as Lex from Sandy Point, Dime has definitely made her presence felt in St. Kitts and Nevis.
She has a deep love and appreciation for all genre of music, but prefers R&B/Rap and a little of Dancehall. She also said that she is addicted to the studio.
Free-spirited, determined and strong are words best described this humble artiste who says she has a passion for the art form.
“Music is one of the few things that keeps me in control of my soul and in touch with reality. That’s my zone, my personal solitude, my private space away from everything around me and my emotional vent,” she said. “I put in a lot of time into my music, each song, each verse and each line, because music is me and what I say is what I mean.”
Dime says that music brings her to life.
“When I’m in the studio and has that booth around me and those headphones on my ears and that microphone next to my mouth, everything else vanishes and I become one with the words, beat and flow,” she said.
Some of the songs she already has on the airwaves include You Know; I need you, featuring DC; and No Wangsta, in which she shows off her rapping skills.
Her most recent release is Lover’s Seduction, a song with Dancehall rhythms.
Dime is currently developing herself as an artiste and preparing to release her debut album - In My Zone. She says it would take listeners through a musical walk through in her zone and would give inspiration as every song has a message.
Dime comes from humble beginnings and her love for music was developed at a young age. Born September 29, Dime began her earliest education at the Sandy Point Pre-School. The Seventh Day Adventist Primary, Sandy Point Primary, Sandy Point High and the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College [CFBC] have all attributed to her education. In 2006 she graduated from CFBC with an Associate’s Degree in Business Studies.
Dime revealed her respect for Alicia Keys whom she says has a tranquil personality that is lyrically seductive and hypnotic, while she had loved the late Tupac Shakur because he was not afraid to speak his mind and also the truth.
Dime believes that everything in life has a rhythm which is more like a beat, and once one flows to it things would go simply divine.
