Miss Silver Jubilee Independence Queen – Chit Chat With Miss Janetta Shoy
What makes you unique?
What I think sets me apart are the qualities the relationship which my daughter has brought out in me. I am fun loving and most of the time I just want to make others happy but she has unearthed a different side of me. It's because of our relationship that I am more mature, yet curious and optimistic about new situations. There is now a drive to approach life with zeal, purpose and a desire to learn. She completes me and gives me so much joy.
Where are you from? If you were to use two adjectives that describe your community and which also describe you as a person, what would those adjectives be?
I am from the beautiful and historic town of Sandy Point - a community that has also contributed to my personality. Like its creative inhabitants I am talented and I dare to say indomitable.
To whom would you attribute your success(es) in life thus far?
My family has truly been an unwavering source of encouragement and support. When I felt uncertain of my potential they encouraged me to persevere. There are also my well wishers who have offered their shoulders and best wishes at key points to prepare me for further success.
What do you hope to gain by participating in a pageant of this nature?
I know that this experience will help to shape my character and add more dimension to my life. This chapter will fine tune or develop traits that can further assist me in life such as addressing large crowds which for most people can be a bit of a challenge; teach me tolerance and appreciation for diversity; meet new people and learn more about the pageant industry; and in my own way exhibiting positive qualities for young ladies like my daughter to aspire towards or acquire.
What does Independence mean to you on a personal level?
Personally, I view it as an opportunity to prove to myself and to others that I can succeed on my own. It means moving out on my own and choosing to leave destructive relationships. It means going to work at mornings even if I am feel tired or unwell but knowing that at the end of the day it will all be all worth it because it adds to me being independent.
What other significant achievements would you like to see in the Federation over the next 25 years?
Honestly I would love to see a change in the attitudes of Kittitians. We must be more tolerant, more involved in nation building and more considerate We are praised for being hospitable but we can be just as welcoming and friendly to our own as to visitors while holding true to our Kittitian identity; a people who truly place their country above self.
