THE VALLEY, Anguilla - THE MIGHTY SPRINGER of Anguilla was crowned the 2008 Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch on Saturday, August 9.
Performing before a large audience at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre, the Mighty Springer won the judges’ nod from among 12 calypsonians, singing “Time for a Change” and “How did we really get to this”.
Pan Man from Antigua was the first Runner-up while the Second and Third Runners-up positions went to Queen Makisha of Virgin Gorda and De Bear, respectively.
Among the other participants was St. Kitts’ Big Lice, who said even though he did not place it was still a good experience for him, as he represented his country for the first time.
Big Lice sang “In our hearts forever” and “The Letter”, the songs that also took him to the calypso finals in St. Kitts last year where he was the First Runner-up.
The last Kittitian to have participated and won the Leeward Islands Calypso competition was King Ayatollah in 2004.
The newly-crowned Culturama Senior Kaiso King of Nevis, Husani ‘De Inspirer’ Parris, was also among the contenders. Like Big Lice, he did not place in the top three, but sources indicated that he gave a great performance.
The competition is normally staged as part of Anguilla’s Annual Summer Festival.

I think you should be careful about what you claim to KNOW!!! Konris is not in Canada working on music, Konris is a Masters student at the University of Waterloo. If you do some research with the leisure time of which you obviously have much of, you would see that exams are scheduled exactly around the time that the calypso show is held in Anguilla. How about we give some encouragement to Konris and all the other local calypsonians. Its barely been 3 years and though so many are quick to decry his success locally they appear to have super high expectations for him abroad!
