By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO brazen bandits executed a daring mid-afternoon  robbery at the CyberLink Internet Café and Mini Mart in Port Zante, which left the owner with an empty coffer and a traumatised employee.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes learned that at about 2:13 p.m. yesterday (Mar. 10), two unmasked young men entered the café under the pretext of purchasing an item. Both of them went to the rear of the café where a male employee was working, and the taller of the two whipped out a handgun and demanded he handed over all the cash.

The employee complied and was forced to also hand over an undisclosed quantity of gold.

Speaking with this publication, the employee who is based in St. Maarten, said he arrived in St. Kitts only two days ago and was assisting the owner of the business when the robbery took place.

“I was working in the storeroom when two men came into the café. Both of them came down to the storeroom, and while the one who was wearing a 'tope' stood some distance from the doorway, the other one was at the door. He then took out a gun and demanded I hand over all the money we had in the cash register,” the employee said.

The employee explained that after handing over the money and gold, the bandit also robbed him of a gold bracelet that he was wearing.

A female employee told this media house that she was unaware of what was happening until she went to the storeroom to uplift some tobacco for a customer.

“A male customer came into the café and ordered some tobacco. I was going to the storeroom to get the tobacco and the customer was walking behind me. However, when I reached the storeroom I saw one man was standing at the door and then I heard a clicking sound and realised he had a gun in his hand,” she said.

The young woman said she was very scared and immediately wanted to use the washroom. She said the bandit with the tope noticed her discomfiture and after an exchange of words he told her to go into the washroom, which was just a few feet away from the storeroom.

She added that the bandit who was wearing a 'tope' relieved the male customer of his jewellery and pushed him in the direction of the washroom before he and his accomplice fled the scene.

No one was injured during the robbery but it was evident that the female employee was traumatised.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Department were also notified of the robbery and they indicated that investigations are ongoing.
