BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THIEVES continue to make miserable the lives of citizens and businessmen in St. Kitts and Nevis, and the most recent victim is Spergian’s Phone Shop where over 50 cellular phones were stolen.

Spergian Herbert, owner of the shop which is situated in the Walls building at the junction of Fort and Princes Streets, said around 8:15 a.m. today (Apr. 13) he received a call from the owner of the building that his shop was broken into.

He indicated that the break-in may have occurred in the wee hours and the phones stolen include a number of BlackBerrys which cost him over EC$20 000.

Herbert told SKNVibes that it appeared as though his business was targeted, because there are other business entities in the building, including that of a store and offices of a lawyer and a doctor that did not suffer losses.

“They walked from the back of a building, entered through a window, went into the second door, break the second door to get into my shop and they had a hell of a time in there.

“They took all the phones out of the showcase. I had like 20 new phones there, BlackBerrys and phones I had repaired for people,” he said.

The local businessman said he has been operating his business at that location for two years and this is the first time he had experienced a break-in.

He said the person(s) also disabled the alarm and turned the camera backwards.

“I just want the phones back. It’s going to be hard to tell people when they come into the store asking about their phones, ‘Sorry, but I have to make an arrangement where I’ll have to pay you back for your phone’,” Herbert said.

Herbert said that the matter was reported and he is hoping that persons would go forward to the police with any information they may have.
