BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are investigating the death of a 33-year-old who died yesterday (May 21) in the Intensive Care Unit at the JNF General Hospital.

Dead is Kurvin ‘Yellow Man’ Hanley who, on Monday (May 16) at about 8:20 p.m., was found by a family member lying face down in his West Farm home with severe burns to both of his legs.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Inspector Vaughan Henderson, a unit of the Emergency Medical Services was alerted and Hanley, accompanied by the family member, was transported to the hospital.

“At approximately 10:20 p.m. on the same day, police received a report of the incident and visited Hanley at the hospital to conduct further inquiries. On Wednesday, May 18, 2011, Hanley underwent emergency surgery but he succumbed to his injuries in the Intensive Care Unit at about 9:07 p.m. yesterday (May 21).

“The scene [his home] was processed by officers of the Crime Scene Department and an autopsy will be performed at a later date to confirm the cause of death,” Henderson said.

The PRO also said that police are treating the incident as a homicide and one suspect was taken into custody on Friday (May 20) to assist members of the Criminal Investigations Department with investigations into the matter.

Hanley’s death brings to nine the number of homicides recorded in the twin-island Federation for the year - eight on St. Kitts and one on Nevis.
