Four hospitalised following four-vehicle collision

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOUR individuals were at the Joseph N. France General Hospital receiving medical attention following their involvement in a four-vehicle collision yesterday afternoon (Oct. 6).

Initial reports reaching SKNVibes suggested that a “serious accident” had occurred at the western leg of the F. T. Williams Highway, also known as the West Bassetere By-pass Road, involving three vehicles.

Acting Head of the Traffic Department Sergeant Calvin Amory confirmed the incident and informed this media house that the accident involved four vehicles - an omnibus H198, two motor cars and a motor pickup.

He indicated that the incident is still under investigations but preliminary inquiries revealed that the collision occurred while the omnibus was travelling eastward along the road and the other three vehicles were travelling in the opposite direction.

Sgt. Amory explained that the bus first collided with one of the cars, then with the other car and finally with the pickup before spinning to a stop.

While three of the vehicles sustained “minimal damage”, Sgt. Amory explained, one of the cars was extensively damaged.

The unnamed driver of the omnibus and three passengers of the extensively damaged vehicle were taken to the JNF Hospital for treatment.

The acting Head of Traffic said while he was aware that some injuries were sustained, he was uncertain of the extent.

In recent days, the Federation has experienced significant increase in rainfall owing to the low pressure system which was passing through the Caribbean. Sgt. Amory reminded all motorists to take note of the change in weather and exercise caution while on their daily commute.
