BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A cloud of grief descended upon the Sandy Point community last evening when a traffic accident claimed four of its young men.
At approximately 11:00 p.m. (Oct. 8), residents of the Cleverly Hill and Romney Ground areas of Sandy Point were awakened by the sound of a loud crash and investigations revealed that a deadly one-vehicle traffic accident had taken place in the vicinity of J’s Place.
While information about the incident is still sketchy, SKNVibes understands that four individuals, identified as Damian Harris age 23, Dexter James age 32, Lasinto Bradshaw age 22 and Maurice Rawlins age 23 were aboard vehicle P 297, which was travelling from Basseterre to Sandy Point. The car was driven and owned by Maurice Rawlins.
SKNVibes also understands that having entered Sandy Point, the vehicle collided with a flambouyant tree that forms part of the fence for the J’s Place property. The vehicle subsequently travelled some distance before coming to a halt.
When this media house arrived on scene, three of the reported four occupants were lying on the ground outside the vehicle while the other had to be removed from the vehicle. Information received suggests that the three were flung from the vehicle and deposited at the areas where their bodies were found.
Units from the Sandy Point Police Station and the St. Kitts Nevis Fire and Rescue Services were on scene to assist with any rescue effort and processing of the scene.
The vehicle in which the men travelled has been wrecked beyond recognition.
Investigations into the fatal crash are ongoing and more information will be provided in a subsequent report.
