St. Kitts 2006 Sea Turtle Poster Competition Launch

Sea turtles and the 2006 Sea Turtle Poster Competition were topics of discussion at the Small Islands Voice Meeting on September 14th, 2006.
The St. Kitts Sea Turtle Monitoring Network and Small Islands Voice are excited to announce the launch of their collaborative 2006 Sea Turtle Poster Competition. 

All competition information was delivered to the Principal or Head Teacher of each primary, secondary, and high school on St. Kitts the week of September 5th, 2006.   
 
The 2006 Sea Turtle Poster Competition was launched in order to promote awareness of sea turtles on St. Kitts. 

There are 3 age categories for the competition; 5-8, 9-12, and 13-16.  All students have been asked to submit artwork along the theme of "creating awareness of sea turtles on St. Kitts."  Entries are encouraged to focus on ways to help sea turtles locally and globally.  Examples would include, but are not limited to; decreasing light pollution, responsible fishing, and responsible development. 
 
Winners and runners up will be chosen from each age category.  The winner of each age category will have his/her artwork featured on one of three posters in a series for the St. Kitts National Sea Turtle Hotline which will be launched at the end of October 2006.

The posters will be displayed island wide.  Additionally, each winner, along with their corresponding teacher, will receive a prize package.  The grand prize winner will receive a cash prize of 300 EC along with their prize package; have their artwork featured on a hotline poster, and as the SKSTMN logo.  

Current sponsors for the prize packages are Small Islands Voice, St. Kitts Sea Turtle Monitoring Network, Glass Island, Subway, Sensational Shoreline Plaza, Internet Café, Oasis Café, Athlete's Foot, Just for Kids, Caribbean Gift and Liquor, and the movie theatre.
 
The deadline for entries is October 16th, 2006.  They should be turned in to Ms. Patricia Liburd, Art Coordinator, at the Department of Education Annex on Cayon Street by 4pm on October 16th.  

The entries will be judged on October 21st, 2006 at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine by 21 local judges.  The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony which will be held at the St. Christopher Heritage Society on October 28th, 2006.
