ANEGADA, B.V.I- Public servants in the community of Anegada will have the opportunity to gather practical information about how to lead a healthier lifestyle at a Wellness Fair on July 22.
The event is just in time for the Festival activities, a time when rich foods often take a toll on persons’ health, says Manager of the
Government’s Employee Relations Unit, Ms. Clearlie Brown.
“We want to start the Festival season off with a reminder about the importance of making healthy choices. This fair is designed to give public officers and the Anegada community information and to motivate them to make everyday changes in their lifestyles,” Ms. Brown said.
The Wellness Fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Theodolph H. Faulkner Administration Building. Among the participants will be government organisations such as the BVI Health Services Authority, the Department of Human Resources, the BVI Social Security Board and other Government Departments.
Director of Human Resources Mr. David Archer said that the Wellness Fair will focus on nutrition, health and dental screenings, benefits and environmental health education. “Information from our Benefits Unit indicates that some of these areas are responsible for the highest number of claims among public servants,” he said. “That tells us that these are the areas where we should focus our educational efforts.”
The Wellness Fair is part of the Department of Human Resources’ wellness programme for public servants. The programme also includes discounted membership to local gyms, educational activities, nutritional and other types of counselling.
Five of the nation’s youth were the recipients of high school scholarships from the St. Christopher & Nevis Social Security Board distributed Monday (Sept. 3) at the statutory body’s headquarters on the Bay Road.The beneficiaries, Shequan Bolus, Evah Barzey, Nehemiah Lawrence, Tassim Carty and Javed Isaac are all Primary school graduates who enrolled in the Verchilds, Washington Archibald, Cayon, Sandy Point and Basseterre High Schools this past Monday for the start of the new school year.
