New Governor General to be sworn in tomorrow

Carlyle Green

ST. GEORGES, Grenada-CARLYLE GLEAN will officially be sworn in as Grenada’s fifth Governor General since Independence tomorrow (Nov. 19) at a 10:00 a.m. ceremony at the Grenada Trade Center.

Having been approved by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Glean will be appointed as Grenada’s Head of State after the current Governor General, Sir Daniel Williams, demits office the same day.

Glean is a university lecturer who served as Minister of Education from 1990-1995 under the rule of former National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Sir Nicholas Brathwaite.

When the NDC was removed from government in 1995 Glean stepped back from the political spotlight, but has shown renewed interest since the New National Party (NNP) was voted out of office on July 8 of this year.

Some media in Grenada have also speculated that tension remains between Sir Daniel, who served as Deputy Political Leader of NNP, and the current Tillman Thomas administration.
