She was a past pupil of the Girls’ High School and St. Kitts Nevis Grammar School where she taught for many years before and after her studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica in the sixties and seventies. She then migrated to Canada and worked with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. After a fourteen year absence, Ester Liburd returned home to St. Kitts and taught English at the St. Kitts Technical College now part of the CFB College. She later relocated to Canada, furthered her studies, and worked in a Careers-advice Department of the Vancouver, British Columbia government. Ester was the former wife of Errol “Flukey” Liburd, Electrical Engineer of St. Kitts. The union bore two children, Faye Fabiana, proprietor of the ‘Why Knot’ line of clothing in Anguilla and Wayne, a professional security consultant. Her deep and abiding love for the Caribbean and her grandchildren brought her back on annual visits after her retirement and at her request, her ashes will be scattered in the Caribbean Sea. A Memorial Service will be held for the late Ester Veronica Webster on February 9th at 4.30 p.m. at the ‘Wesley’ Methodist Church on Seaton Street, Basseterre. The Service is being organised by Past Pupils of the Girls’ High School to give family, friends, pupils, colleagues and well wishers a chance to pay tribute and give thanks for the life of this much-loved educator. She was 71. Those wishing to send written tributes (not more than five lines) for inclusion in the Memorial booklet are asked to do so by Jan. 31st. Tributes can be sent to callender@sknvibes.com
