CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – PRESIDENT of the Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA) Lester Blackett has promised yet another exciting hosting of the Gulf Insurance Primary Schools Championship, which begins tomorrow (Mar. 24) at the Elquemedo Willet Park.

The 18th edition of the competition is expected to be one of the best to date as thousands of fans will cheer on the eight participating primary schools. Speaking to SKNVibes, Blackett said that the event continues to impress those in the Federation and throughout the region because of one thing: “the atmosphere”.

“It is unique in the Caribbean and perhaps the world for the excitement it inspires in the public. The Government has given the public a half day holiday, and that’s not something we asked for but is something the public demanded.”

In the past, the excitement of the Gulf Insurance Primary Schools Championship has drawn several high-profile persons such as Swedish trainer Anna Linner and NACAC President Neville ‘Teddy’ McCook and this year is expected to be no different.

Blackett revealed that tomorrow’s competition would be attended by no less than Gulf Insurance Chairman Gerrard Lee-Inniss, making the event historic as it will be the first time that the sponsor head will be on hand to witness the proceedings.

On the track, the athletes are expected to give their usual high-standard performance as they look to not only be the champion school, but also to impress and hopefully make the national team for this year’s Caribbean Union of Teachers Games in St. Kitts.

While nearly 5000 fans from across the Caribbean are expected to attend tomorrow’s competition, Blackett said that the NAAA will also be providing persons outside of Nevis with a chance to experience the meet as it happens.

Live commentary is scheduled to be broadcast via Nevis-based radio stations VON Radio and Choice FM, both on the airwaves and on the internet.

Additionally, fans around the globe can log on to www.nevispsc.com to see “almost television like quality” streaming video, thousands of pictures as events happen and up-to-the-minute statistics and point counts.

“It is a meet of stature. Such is the level of the meet in terms of the performance of the athletes, the closeness of the meet and the excitement it generates in the public,” Blackett said as he encouraged track fans in Nevis to come out, view via the internet or do both as they experience the island’s premier youth event.
