Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 23, 2010 (SKNAAA Press Release) - The 2010 edition of the CUT Games begins today at the Silver Jubilee Stadium in Basseterre St. Kitts at 6 p.m.

Over 500 athletes from eighteen (18) countries are already on island, geared up to compete in the Caribbean Union of Teachers biennial under-15 athletic meet.

A spectacular Opening Ceremony has been organized for this evening and will feature a grand parade of all eighteen participating nations led by the Destiny Academy of Performing Arts.

Ministers of government, executive members of the St. Kitts Teachers’ Union and the Caribbean Union of Teachers are expected to give inspiring remarks to competing athletes and attendees.

A special edutainment package entitled COLORS OF THE CARIBBEAN will be performed by some one hundred dancers from Children’s Dance Theatre, The Fireflies Dance School, The CFBC Dance Ensemble and The Anjolique Dance Company. Four-time crowned Calypso King, King Conris, local singing sensation Infamus and reigning Junior Calypso Monarch Carissa Willett will also be a part of this presentation which seeks to examine the use of colours commonly seen in the region.

The Caribbean Union of Teachers Games (CUT) Track and Field Championships was organized as a result of the CUT's recognition of the need to provide young athletes aged 8-15 years with some regional competition.

These particular Championships would bring together students and teachers of the Caribbean for a few days of friendly competition, camaraderie and co-operation. The competition will be on July 24th and 25th with morning sessions from 9 a.m., while those in the afternoon are expected to commence at 2 p.m.

The Caribbean Union of Teachers Biennial Games was first held in Barbados in 1986, so this weekend’s meet will be the 13th.
