    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 12TH 2006
    - The Ministry of National Security said Tuesday it is awaiting a report from a Cabinet-appointed Committee set up to review a set of proposals from the Police Welfare Association.

    The Ministry said the Police Welfare Association submitted a proposal to the Ministry requesting a comprehensive review of rates and allowances, which was brought to the attention of the Ministry on June 14, 2006.
     
    A meeting was convened by the Ministry two days subsequent to this date on June 16, 2006 to consider the proposal of the Police Welfare Association.
     
    The Ministry said an official submission was made to the Cabinet on June 19, 2006, which was mandated by the establishment of a Committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Police Service Commission, the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the Force Personnel Office to review the proposal of the Police Welfare Association.
     
    This information was communicated to the Commissioner of Police by the Ministry in a letter dated June 23, 2006, the statement said.
     
    It added that the Cabinet appointed Committee has convened meetings as directed and the Association has been advised as to the progress made in two consecutive letters dated June 26 and August 31, 2006.
     
    ~~Adz:Right~~The Cabinet appointed Committee has informed the Ministry that it is nearing conclusion of its assigned task and is prepared to report to Cabinet on its findings expeditiously.
     
    The Ministry is committed to continue its engagement with the High Command on the issues.
