The education system must find effective, creative ways to integrate so-called “lower-stream” students fully into schools, as well as information technology into the teaching process, so that children can reach their potential and learn real-world skills to contribute to the economy. Attracting a lot more students to the sciences – and retaining them – is also vital to improving the health care sector. Here in St. Kitts, 55 students or 30% of 184 first-year students at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) were registered in biology, chemistry, and physics courses, as of September 2008. Forty-three students or 26% of 166 second-year CFBC students were registered in biology, chemistry, and physics courses, as of September 2008.

Constituency Number Seven candidate Ronald ‘Louie’ Williams would head the Ministries of Education and Information.
He said that many persons had become “disillusioned with the education system” and it would be his goal to reduce class sizes, reward hardworking teachers and principals, upgrade the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College to a full university and ensure that the nation’s education system was not used as an “assembly line” for high examination scores without regard to individual learning needs.
