BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE nation awoke this morning (Mar. 10) to startling news that shots were fired at the Sandy Point home and vehicle of Deputy Prime Minister the Hon. Shawn K. Richards.

The incident was confirmed by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force which issued a press release indicating that it occurred at about 3:15 a.m.

“Initial investigations revealed that an unknown assailant(s) fired a number of gunshots at the residence of the Honourable Shawn Richards, the Deputy Prime Minister. Police responded and observed damages to the home and his vehicle consistent with gunshots.

The value of the damage is unknown at this time.”

The release further explained that the Deputy Prime Minister was at the home – along with other family members – when the incident occurred. Thankfully, no one was injured.

“Officers from District “B”, the K-9 Unit and the Special Services Unit (SSU) responded. Technicians from the Forensics Services Unit are currently processing the scene and have already collected items of evidential value.”

District Commander for Division B Superintendent Lionel Moore, as quoted by the release, is appealing with the public to assist the authorities in their investigations of this incident.

“This is a rather troubling incident.  We urge anyone who may have information with regards to this incident to come forward.  You can do so anonymously by calling any station, Crime Stoppers or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on your Smartphone.”

SKNVibes made an attempt to contact Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris concerning this situation but it was futile.

This is not the first time a member of the Team Unity Government had been targeted.

In May 2016, bandits had invaded the home of Attorney General the Hon. Vincent Byron and reportedly removed a number of items therefrom.
