Youth Advisor says come ready to work at final Youth Policy Consultation

By: (SKNIS), Press Release
Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 24, 2017 (SKNIS): Young people across St. Kitts and Nevis and other stakeholders invited to participate in the March 28 National Consultation on the Federal Youth Policy 2017-2022, have been encouraged to come ready to work.

Vernon Connor, Special Advisor to the Minister of Youth, said a lot of hard work over the past six months has helped to shape the Draft Federal Youth Policy into a modern tool that will guide the development of the youth population over the next five years. As such, he said it was important for the more than 200 persons expected, to validate the opinions and suggestions shared at various forums and discussions.

“It will be a history making event,” the special advisor stated. “It’s like a new era we are starting in St. Kitts and Nevis and we want everyone who has been invited to be a vital part of it. This will make a big difference.”

Approximately 100 persons from Nevis are expected at the national consultation. Mr. Connor hailed the cooperation received from the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) as excellent and credited the junior minister responsible for youth in Nevis, Honourable Hazel Brandy-Williams, for fully endorsing the project from the onset.

“She [the minister] has been a tremendous support; her team in Nevis has been a tremendous support,” he said, citing the leadership provided by Permanent Secretary, Michelle Liburd, and Director of Youth, Zahnela Claxton. “They have really been there, rallied [support] for the programme and it is actually a true and genuine federal undertaking and we are grateful for that.”

The National Consultation on the Federal Youth Policy 2017-2022 will be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
