PLP recommits itself to living out the ideals for which Team Unity has stood

By: Peter Ngunjiri, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, March 25, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Political Leader of the youngest in the ruling tri-party collation, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, opines that Kittitians and Nevisians owe it to themselves to preserve the good that they have and is advising that they need each other to improve on the systems and constructs that are currently in place.

“St. Kitts and Nevis, like many other small island developing states, now stands at the crossroads of our sustainable survival in terms of politics, economics, social development, cultural identity, and our place on the global stage - where there are no free passes just because we are small,” says the Peoples Labour Party’ Political Leader.

“The PLP, as a result, recommits itself to living out the ideals for which Team Unity has stood - and still stand for! We owe it to ourselves to do all in our power to ensure that we preserve the good that we have, improve on the systems and constructs that are currently in place, and fuel the dreams, passions, goals and objectives we share in common for our country.”

Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, who is also the Prime of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, is sharing his thoughts during the auspicious occasion of his party’s holding its inaugural National Convention on Saturday March 25 at the Recreation Grounds in Tabernacle Village.

“None of us can do this alone,” adds the PLP’s Political Leader. “No, not one! We need each other. We also need to maintain the successes we have attained, and to press on with the business of building the party and solidifying our mark on the national landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

The Political Leader, who is on record as saying that the strengthening of the PLP is synonymous with the strengthening of the entire Team Unity Movement which includes the People’s Action Movement (PAM) on St. Kitts and the Concerned Citizens’ Movement (CCM) on Nevis, is true to his own words as Political Leaders of those two parties, Hon Shawn Richards (PAM) and the Hon Vance Amory, are joining him at the National Convention to bring fraternal greetings.

Dr Harris further says that Saturday March 25 is a special day for his party as it holds its inaugural National Convention, adding that while the party is still young what is phenomenal is the rate of change and the level of progress that has been achieved in a very short period of time, something which is unheard of and he terms is as ground breaking.

“When the history of the Team Unity Movement in St. Kitts and Nevis is officially written, the Peoples Labour Party will be documented as being a vital and an indispensable part of that triumvirate which was officially launched on September 26, 2013,” says the PLP’s Political Leader.

“Since the General Election victory of February 16, 2015, the tripartite political alliance has been taking the country forward progressively on a mission to increase the standards of living for all. The PLP is proud to be leading this alliance along with the Peoples Action Movement (PAM) of St. Kitts and the Concerned Citizens’ Movement (CCM) of Nevis.”

Dr Harris observes that as the Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party, it is also his distinct pride and honour to serve the people of St. Kitts and Nevis as their Prime Minister.

Looking back, the PLP’s Political Leader reminds that the party found its roots at a time when the people felt that the prevailing administration was no longer representing their needs, no longer listening and no longer conducting itself in an appropriate fashion.

“We made history by being the first coalition government to achieve the progress that we did on a range of agendas such as health, education, employment, business and the economy,” reminds Dr Harris. “With the PLP playing a leader role in this, we should be justly proud.”

Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, is a consummate political and administrative leader whose close to 20 years in government as a senior minister led his political colleagues to choose him to be the Team Unity’s flag-bearer in the political battle to free St. Kitts and Nevis from the clutches of misrule and throes of helplessness. He owes everything to the mandate that has been given to him by the people.

“Crucial to this success has been working together collaboratively but also more importantly adhering to the core value of the Federation’s ‘Country Above Self’ motto,” he further advises. “It is the practical application of this federal mantra that continues to guide Team Unity in the execution of its mandate given by you, the people.”

He concludes his message by assuring all that it is possible to achieve all they desire as a team, because, “Together we can!”
