Music Festival to announce more artistes

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the Music Festival Committee moving early to announce the names of the artistes for this year’s event, Events Director at the Ministry of Tourism, Allister Williams has disclosed that plans are moving apace for the staging of the Festival.

The early announcement of the early headliners has given the organizers the opportunity to continue planning and making the necessary changes when and where necessary.

Against that backdrop, Williams stated that the Ministry of Tourism are pleased with the levels of preparation that they have seen thus far.

So far, the committee has released the names of Jah Cure, Movado and Shabba Ranks, all of Jamaica; Trinidad and Tobago’s The Voice and American rock band, the Goo Goo Dolls.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Williams explained that officials began the planning process in October or November of last year, and since then, “we have made considerable progress”.

“We have been reaching out and talking with stakeholders in various areas and the service providers,” he added.

He revealed that the final slate of artistes performing at the 21st Edition of the St. Kitts Music Festival would be announced tomorrow (Apr. 5) at Boozie’s at 8:30p.m..

Additionally, a number of marketing campaigns and a search for two bands to participate in a clash at the event, are being undertaken.

The application process has opened for females looking to be ambassadors of the Festival and the Director is urging persons to grab hold of the opportunity.

“Generally speaking, we are pleased with the level of progress so far; all hands are on deck. And we are also hoping that tickets would go on sale within the next month so that those persons overseas and those here who would like to get their tickets early, can do so.”

Back in February at the media and stakeholders launch of the Festival, Ambassador Jonel Powell had indicated that for the 2017 edition, the Committee had instituted a number of changes.

Among those are an early finish to the festival – closing off at 1:00 a.m. This is being done to facilitate patrons getting value for this money.

Additionally, it would give support to the other private events at clubs around the island by affording patrons time enough to make their way to the after parties.

According to the Ambassador, the Committee had taken the decision because, for many years, headliners would begin their performance very late into the morning, around 2:00 or 3:00 a.m., to smaller-than-usual crowds.

“It also affects the artistes’ performance when they come out and only see half the crowd there. The other thing is, we want to encourage other activities which encompass the wide array of the St. Kitts Music Festival. This year the government is spending in excess of $7 million in the redevelopment of the Strip in Frigate Bay and we want to let them go there.”

This year’s Festival would be held from the June 22 - 24 on the cricket grounds of Warner Park.
