BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (April 24, 2017) -- The Mt. Camel Baptist Church has once again partnered with the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis (DBSKN) in support of this year’s edition of Camp Ezekiel where over 60 young persons gathered at the St. Paul’s Community Stadium over the Easter weekend to learn more about holistic life.
The vividly happy and energetic youngsters of ages ranging from five to 16 years drawn from all denominations, held the camp under the theme ‘Dare to Prepare’. According to Camp Ezekiel’s Assistant Secretary Ms Esmie Clarke there was not a dull moment as the camp had activities that simulated them spiritually, academically and physically.
The camp started in the afternoon of Holy Thursday, but before its opening Ms Clarke had in the morning visited the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis in the company of the Camp’s Supervisor Ms Shadia Dunrod where they received the bank’s sponsorship cheque.
The sponsorship cheque was handed over to them by Ms Vernitha Maynard, Development Bank’s Marketing Officer, who informed them that the institution boasts of being one that makes a sustained positive difference in people’s lives and young people were not left out.
“On behalf of the Bank, the General Manager, and the Board of Directors we are always happy to give a sponsorship of this kind to assist the people who are trying to steer our youth in the right direction,” said Ms Maynard. “It is our pleasure.”
Ms Clarke noted that the camp’s venue changes every year, as last year it was held in Gingerland, Nevis. St. Paul’s on the island of St. Kitts was this year’s venue as that allows the participants learn more about their own country. She noted that children from all denominations were welcome, adding that the main criterion for acceptance to the camp was that they had be Sunday school attendees, and church goers for the older ones.
“On behalf of Camp Ezekiel, we would like to thank the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr Lenworth Harris (the General Manager) and the staff for giving us this kind generous contribution towards our camp,” noted Ms Clarke. “That way we can help these young children to grow into better people. I therefore would like to say thank you very much, we appreciate your kind generous donation.”
During the camp presentations were made by Mr Kervington Pemberton, a Lay Preacher of the Methodist Church, and who is a past Youth Ambassador, and a teacher at the Dr William Connor Primary School; and Mr Kirby Samuels, a teacher at the Washington Archibald High School (WAHS) and who is also the Proprietor/Owner of Leumas Poultry Farm.
Outdoor activities that helped to stimulate the camp participants were as exciting as ever, with a hike to the Sulphur Stone being the most energy-sapping activity which saw three male participants, Divonté Liburd, Jahi Clarke, and Kadeem Huggins, lead all the way.
The glorious Easter tradition of egg hunt was held at the stadium, and outsmarting fellow campers was Bonnie Mitchum who not only collected the highest number of eggs, 20, but she also found the golden egg. This is one young lady who is eagerly looking forward to next year’s camp with the hope of maintaining her record.
There was also a talent show where Jahvid Allen emerged first with his own composition, while his sister Jahzara Allen placed second. In the third place was a dance performed by the all-girl quartet of Geraldine Rodriguez, Ana Camila Guevara, Anays Rodriguez and Sharon Oudebreuil.
Taking time out to assist at the camp were Ms Esmie Clarke, Ms Shadia Dunrod, Mrs Erla Allen, Mrs Sonia Berkley, Mrs Malvie James, Mrs Buelah Belle, Mrs Claudina Archibald, Ms Kerina James, Ms Stevonia Small, Mr Valston Johnson, Mr David Allen, and Paul Benjamin. Bus drivers were Mr Calvin Archibald, Mr Trevor Stapleton and Mr Lanzette Prince.
