BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, April 26, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- The Peoples Labour Party (PLP) National Executive is calling on all health conscious persons to join Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris on Saturday April 29 for his monthly Constituency #7 Health Walk.

“Get your walking shoes ready! It is Health Walk time again!” announced PLP’s National Secretary Ms Myrtilla Williams. “Come walk and talk with Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris and the PLP this Saturday April 29th at 5:30 am from Belle Vue to Ottley’s Hard Court.”

According to Ms Williams, the monthly Health Walk is no longer a Constituency #7 affair, following the record breaking attendance during the last Health Walk which was held on Saturday April 1 where participants were drawn from all the constituencies.

“There was an overwhelming support for the last health walk, which is a clear indication that the message our Prime Minister and the PLP Political Leader Dr the Hon Timothy Harris is sending out to the people is finding receptive ears,” explained Ms Williams.

“In this day and age where chronic non-communicable diseases or what we call lifestyle diseases are taking a heavy toll on our good people, Dr Harris who also serves as CARICOM’s lead spokesperson on human resources, health and HIV matters, is creating awareness in his home country and leading by example when he organises such well-meaning ventures.”

She has sent out an appeal to all persons of goodwill to join the Prime Minister on Saturday at Belle Vue as from 5:15 am as the walk starts at 5:30 am sharp. The participants will walk along the Island Main Road through the various picturesque Constituency #7 villages of Tabernacle, Mansion, Christchurch, Bourryeau, Lodge, Lodge Project and end at Ottley’s Hard Court.

“Invite a friend or ten,” appealed Ms Williams. “If you have friends in Nevis who would express the wish to take part in this walk, please offer them overnight accommodation to give them a head-start on Saturday morning as there would be no boats running at that hour. Light refreshments will be served after.”

She also announced that due to the importance of the event and the fact that it is receiving widespread support, the PLP National Executive Committee has decided that awards will be given to the youngest and oldest participants in the walk. This will underscore the fact that there is scope for every one of all ages and abilities to participate and have a very enjoyable time.

At the last walk, 64-year old Mrs Sylvia Berridge of Phillips Village was the most senior participant who finished way ahead of many younger and more energetic persons, while the youngest was five-year-old Miss Briannae Richardson, a student at the Beach Allen Primary School.
