BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE working class people of the Federation have the support of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), so said Ambassador and party member Jonel Powell.

That reassuring statement came when hundreds of workers, supporters and members of the Opposition St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union marched through the streets of Basseterre in celebration of Labour Day, and what they claimed was a protest against  unfair treatment meted out to many workers.

Speaking with SKNVibes while on the sideline of the march, Powell explained that the working class is the priority for his party and by extension the Government of National Unity.

“We want to get the message over to the people that we as a party and a member of the tri-party coalition, which forms the Government of National Unity, are there and in a position to make life and work better for the workers of this country.”

Powell, who was appointed Special Ambassador for Sports, believes that the Government has contributed a number of polices and implemented a number of initiatives that would better the lives of the people in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Powell added: “We just want them to know that we are on your side and we are there for you.”

The young lawyer, other politicians, members of his party and Ministers of Government took time out to have a day of fun with their supporters at the People’s Action Movement Headquarters on Lockhart Street, Basseterre.

Among the activities in which they participated were a breakfast, domino competitions and entertainment throughout the day.

Powell noted that Labour Day is one of those days that the people take time out and recognise the contribution that the working class had made throughout the world, while drawing attention to the challenges they are facing.

“It is really about the people that push the country and those that keep the economy and get things done. People go out there and they work hard. I do not discriminate! Regardless of your status in the work environment, it is a day for you.”

He reiterated that the People’s Action Movement supports all in the working class of St. Kitts and Nevis and would continue to do so.
