BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE tourist, who was reported drowned somewhere in the Caribbean Sea within St. Kitts on Saturday (May 6), had died of multiple complications.

According to a police report, the tourist was identified as Carlos V. Diaz of the Bronx, New York, USA and a post mortem examination conducted on Monday (May 8) concluded that his death was as a result of Pulmonary Edema, Myocardial Hypertrophy and Hypertensive Heart Disease.

According to Mayo Clinic, Pulmonary Edema is defined as a condition caused by excess fluid in the lungs. This fluid collects in the numerous air sacs in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe; and Hypertensive Heart Disease refers to heart conditions caused by high blood pressure.

The police release stated that, on the day in question, officers had responded to a report of a sudden death of a diver, and that investigations revealed that while on a diving excursion Diaz was seen floating in the water.

Diaz was taken aboard the diving vessel where he died despite efforts made to assist him.

The police also informed that the body was handed over to his wife for funeral arrangements.
