Four on gun-related charges

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOUR of the eight individuals taken into custody on Monday (May 8), following operations conducted by members of the security forces, were today (May 11) slapped with multiple gun-related and illegal drug charges.

     

    The individuals charged are Karim Maynard of Keys Village, Leon and Steve Isaac of Conaree Village and Romain Tota of Upper Monkey Hill.

    According to a police press release, the men were charged in connection with an investigation into the importation of an illegal firearm and a quantity of cannabis sativa.

    Maynard and Tota were both charged with conspiracy to import an illegal firearm, to wit one firearm barrel), one magazine and a quantity cannabis sativa.
       
    Maynard was also charged with 11 violations of the Customs Act while Tota was charged with seven violations of the same Act.

    Leon Isaac was also charged with conspiracy to import an illegal firearm, to wit one firearm barrel, one magazine, a quantity of cannabis sativa and six violations of the Customs Act.  

    And Steve Isaac was charged with possession of an illegal firearm, to wit one firearm barrel, one magazine, possession of cannabis sativa and possession of cannabis sativa with intent to supply. 

    On Monday (May 9), this media house had reported that two officers of Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department were arrested on the previous day for alleged illegal importation of firearms into St. Kitts and Nevis.

    Another article was published the next day in which police had confirmed that the two Customs Officers were among the eight individuals in custody. 

    However, in this recent release, the police did not state which of the three men charged with importation and violations of the Customs Act are the two Customs Officers.
