Several big names for Warner Park T20s

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – INTERNATIONAL cricket will be back at Warner Park in just under two weeks, as the West Indies will be hosts to Afghanistan for their inaugural series in the Caribbean.

Warner Park will be the venue for a practice game on Tuesday (May 30), where a WICB President’s XI will battle with the Afghanis before they take on a strong Windies team which will include Carlos Brathwaite (Captain), Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Jerome Taylor and Lendl Simmons.

The first of the three-game T20 series will bowl off on Thursday (Jun. 1) at 7:30 p.m.

The West Indies Cricket Board in a release quoted Chairman of Selectors Courtney Brown as saying: “After the T20 Series against Pakistan we felt that it was important to keep the same group together so that the coaches can continue developing the young players. This, coupled with the vast T20 experience of some of our senior players, can help us to build a very formidable unit.”

Noticeably absent from the line-up is local player Kieron Powell, who has put together good starts to his innings during the recent Pakistan Test series.

However, the team includes young Guyanese pacer Ransford Beaton, who had a constant presence in the Caribbean Premier League and has had recorded good performances over the years.

“Our Head Coach, Stuart Law, has asked for someone who can add some firepower to the attack. We felt that Ronsford has shown he can bowl with sustained pace in T20 cricket. We are confident he will do very well,” Brown said of Beaton.

Meanwhile, the series will see Jamaican pacer Jerome Taylor make his return to the West Indies line-up after his sudden retirement last year.

Taylor is expected to lead the West Indies bowling attack in the series.

Below is the full squad for the three-match T20 series

Carlos Brathwaite (Captain), Samuel Badree, Ronsford Beaton, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Jerome Taylor, Chadwick Walton and Kesrick Williams.
