Gunman robs Washie’s Science Teacher in school

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS bandits in St. Kitts continue to demonstrate the lack of concern from whom they would deprive of their hard-earned cash and valuables, the latest person to fall victim is a male Science teacher at the Washington Archibald High School.

Speaking with SKNVibes, the teacher said that on Monday night (May 22), a lone gunman had robbed him of a small amount of cash, some receipts and bills, as well as a number of personal documents.

Recounting his ordeal, the teacher said that on the night in question he had left the school to purchase credits for his phone at Gillard’s Supermarket.

“I returned to the school at approximately 8:20 p.m. and was seated at my desk in the Chemistry Lab assisting a CFBC student to prepare for his Chemistry exam on the following day. Five minutes after, while engrossed in explaining something to the young student, a very tall man entered the Lab and we found ourselves staring into the muzzle of a gun.”

The teacher said the gunman was about six feet two inches in height and was dressed in a red basketball trunks, an orange T-shirt and his face was concealed by a white T-shirt.

“He said to us, ‘Put your hands up.’ After complying, the gunman said in a gruff voice, ‘Get on the ground and pass your wallet.’ Though fear had gripped me, I immediately realised that he must have seen when I took money out of my wallet to pay for the credits at the supermarket and he had stealthily followed me on my way back to the school. That is what I surmised, because, how did he know that I had a wallet?”

The Science teacher continued: “I handed him the wallet and he said to me, ‘If you do not have money in your wallet I am going to shoot you.’ Fortunately, however, there was EC$120 in the wallet.

“The gunman then turned to the student and asked if he had money. The student told him that he only had two dollars in his pocket and the gunman said, ‘You safe.’ He then exited the Lab while we remained in the prone position on the floor.”

The teacher said that approximately 10 minutes after the bandit’s departure, they got up from the floor and he went in search of the security guard, who he had found in the school’s office.

“I told the security guard what transpired and asked if he had seen the gunman either when he entered or on leaving the school’s compound, to which he answered in the negative. I then made a call to the Basseterre Police Station and a squad of approximately five officers promptly responded.

“I told them what transpired and I also gave them a description of the gunman. Upon such information, the officers quickly left in search of him but returned empty handed. They them took a statement and informed that they would be in contact with me.”

The Science teacher stated that he was silently praying for the safety of himself and the student during the ordeal and had given thanks to the Almighty for “our safe keep”.
