Another young woman murdered in Nevis

MURDERED: Lydia Jacobs
By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – FOR the second time in less than two months a young mother was murdered on Nevis. The first was in Cotton Ground and, according to reports, the second one occurred late last night (Jun. 2) in Church Ground.

Information reaching SKNVibes, which was confirmed by police, states that shortly before 11:00 p.m., 37-year-old Lydia Jacobs, an employee of the Four Seasons Resort, was shot dead in the yard of her Grace Development Housing residence in Church Ground.

A police communiqué stated that investigations revealed that Jacobs was shot by an unknown assailant or assailants and was taken to the Alexandra Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The communiqué also stated that one person is in custody assisting police with their investigations into this murder.

The police are encouraging anyone who might have information regarding this incident to go forward and share it with them.

Such information, they advised, could be passed to investigators by calling the Charlestown Police Station at 469-5391/5392 or any police station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS) or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on their Smartphone.

Meanwhile, on his Facebook page, Nevis Deputy Premier Hon. Mark Brantley is imploring Jacobs’ neighbours and friends to “say what they know so that we can bring the perpetrators to justice”.

Brantley posted that his heart goes out to Jacobs’ family and that he had known her well and shall miss her dimpled smile.

“No one in our country should live in fear and no criminal should ever feel safe within our borders,” he added.

Lydia Jacobs is the second woman to have been killed on Nevis for this year.

On Monday (Apr. 17), a 28-year-old mother of two, Morella Webbe, was killed near her Cotton Ground home when a gunman or gunmen reportedly fired some 30 bullets on the car she was driving.

Jacobs’ death has taken to 11 the number of homicides committed in the twin-island Federation for the year; six on Nevis and five on St. Kitts.
