Two dead in Taylor’s Village shooting

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LESS than 24 hours after a young woman was murdered on Nevis, two men suffered similar fate last night (Jun. 3) as a result of a shooting incident in Taylor’s Village on St. Kitts.

    Late last night, police issued a release stating that members of the Violent Crimes Unit were investigating a shooting incident that was reported at 9:45 p.m. in Taylor’s Village that resulted in injuries to one person and the murder of another.

    It also stated that the injured victim is a male resident of Taylor’s Village and the deceased was identified as a male resident of Lower Westbourne Street.

    “Investigations revealed that the victims were shot by an unknown assailant(s) while entering the yard of the injured victim. The injured victim was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital by the Emergency Medical Services. The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene,” the release added.

    This publication however learnt that the second victim died while at the hospital.

    SKNVibes also learnt that he was a businessman and his name was given as 41-year-old Sean Smith, while the one who died at the scene was a mechanic and was plying his trade in College Street Ghaut. His name was given as Dennis Liburd (46), also known as 'Bun Up and Charmer’.

    The police are encouraging anyone who might have information regarding this incident to go forward and share it with them.  

    Such information, they advised, could be passed to investigators by calling the Basseterre Police Station at 465-4421 or any police station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS) or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on their Smartphone. 

    Shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Friday (Jun. 2), 37-year-old Lydia Jacobs, an employee of the Four Seasons Resort, was shot dead in the yard of her Grace Development Housing residence in Church Ground, Nevis.

    Police had reported that she was shot by an unknown assailant or assailants and was taken to the Alexandra Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

    An individual has since been apprehended and is in custody assisting police with their investigations into this murder.

    Sean Smith and Dennis Liburd shooting deaths have taken to 13 the number of homicides committed in the Federation for this year; six on Nevis and seven on St. Kitts.
