    President sends best wishes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE St. Kitts-Nevis National Men’s Football team will begin its quest for more European glory today (June 4) when the Sugar Boyz take on Armenia in the first of their two-game international friendly.

Playing in Yerevan, the Sugar Boyz will be looking for a victory to boost their rankings which has had mixed fortunes over the last several months due to inactivity.

The Sugar Boyz will be confident going into this encounter after they had won their last outing 2-1 against Barbados at Warner Park.

Meanwhile, President of the SKNFA, Anthony Johnson recently wished the team success on its second trip to Europe.

This time around, Johnson noted, player would be exposed to various conditions and an opportunity to market their skills.

“As far as the tour of Europe is concerned, it is a significant step we believe in the right direction,” Johnson told reporters. “It exposes our players to very challenging circumstances, playing in bigger stadiums, playing in different conditions in terms of where the weather is concerned, and also being exposed to more coaching and scouting opportunities, because they would be seen by a different market and with the hope that some of them would be offered contracts.”

Against that backdrop, the President Johnson stated that coming off the game against Barbados, interest has been shown in one of the local players by a scout.

During their first European tour, the Sugar Boyz had won their first game1-nil against Andorra but lost the second one 3-nil against Estonia. The victory against Andorra was the first by a Caribbean nation on European soil.

Johnson noted that the technical team had worked very hard to prepare the players for the two-game trip.

“We wish the team the very best. The head coach, Mr. Passy, and his team have worked very hard in order to prepare for this tour and the players, we believe, would take advantage of the opportunity and we urge them to go out and display their best, both on and off the field.”

After Armenia, team St. Kitts and Nevis will travel to Georgia and battle that nation on Wednesday (Jun. 7).
