BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THOUGH they fought gallantly, the Sugar Boyz were outplayed yesterday (Jun. 4) when they received a 5-nil drubbing from their superior Armenian counterparts.
Kicking off their second stint in Europe, the Sugar Boyz were put to the sword early in the game and the goalkeeper was made to work very hard to avoid the ball escaping safe hands.
However, the defence was breached in the 19th minute when forward Ruslan Koryan found the back of the net.
Eleven minutes later they were again punished when the Manchester United Midfielder, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, doubled Armenia’s lead.
Mkhitaryan was not done writing his name on the score sheet, as he slotted home a second goal in the 40th minute.
Despite playing positive football in the second half, Artur Sarkisov in the 68th inute and Artak Yedigaryan in the 89th added to the Sugar Boyz woes and took the tally to five.
Head Coach of the national team, Jacques Passy and his unit will be seeking redemption in a June 7th clash with Georgia at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium.
