BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE persons are currently in police custody assisting sleuths in their investigations into the two shooting incidents that occurred over the weekend in St. Kitts and Nevis.

A police communiqué states that the individual, who was apprehended early Saturday morning (Jun. 2) in relation to the shooting-death of 37-year-old Lydia Jacobs on Nevis, remains in custody and is assisting police with their investigation into the matter.

The communiqué also states that two persons were taken into custody early this morning (Jun. 6) and are assisting police with their investigation into Saturday night’s (Jun. 3) shooting incident that resulted in the death of 41-year-old Sean 'Spajal' Smith and 46-year-old Dennis ‘Bun Up’ Liburd.

Information reaching SKNVibes had stated that shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Friday, Jacobs, who is said to have been employed at the Four Seasons Resort, was shot while in the yard of her Grace Development Housing residence in Church Ground, Nevis.

Police reported that she was shot by an unknown assailant and taken to the Alexandra Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Less than 24 hours later, Liburd and Smith had suffered similar fate.

A police communiqué had stated that members of the Violent Crimes Unit had responded to a 9:45 p.m. report of a shooting incident in Taylor’s Village that resulted in injuries to one person and the murder of another.

It had informed that the injured victim was a male resident of Taylor’s Village and the deceased was identified as a male resident of Lower Westbourne Street.

“Investigations revealed that the victims were shot by an unknown assailant(s) while entering the yard of the injured victim. The injured victim was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital by the Emergency Medical Services. The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene,” the release added.

SKNVibes however later learnt that the deceased was Liburd, who was said to be a mechanic and used to ply his trade in College Street Ghaut; while, Smith, who was a businessman, had some time later succumbed to his injuries at the JNF General Hospital.

These three deaths have taken to 13 the number of homicides committed in the Federation for this year; six on Nevis and seven on St. Kitts.
