Juvenile charged with murder and attempted murder

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A male juvenile, who was in police custody on suspicion of the shooting-death of one man and the wounding of two others in St. Paul’s Village, was charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.

    According to a police report, the 17-year-old hails “from the western area of St. Kitts”.

    He was charged with the shooting-death of 32-year-old32-year-old Jahma Francis of Willet’s Project, a 22-year-old male resident of Willet’s Estate and an 18-year-old male resident of Willet’s Project in St. Paul’s Village.

    The shooting incident reportedly occurred shortly after mid-day on Tuesday (Jun. 6) in Rawlins Ground, St. Paul’s Village.

    The three victims were transported to the JNF General Hospital, where Francis succumbed to his injuries.

    On the following day, police reported that the 17-year-old was taken into custody and was assisting them with their investigation into the incident.

    Commenting on the incident, Head of the Crime Directorate, Assistant Commissioner of Police Andre Mitchell lamented: “This is a most unfortunate situation for all concerned. It is time for us to take stock in our homes and communities. Today two families are grieving, let us make a concerted effort to stop this senseless violence.”

    The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is requesting members of the public to share any information on any criminal activity with the law enforcement agency by calling any police station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS) or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on their Smartphone.

    Jahma Francis’ shooting-death was the fourth to have occurred within five days and it has taken to 14 the number of homicides committed in the Federation for the year; six on Nevis and eight on St. Kitts.
