One shot to death in JNF Hospital

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MEMBERS of the Violent Crimes Unit are investigating a shooting incident that occurred this morning (Jun. 20) at the JNF General Hospital which resulted in the death of one man.

     

     
    According to a police press release, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. and the victim was identified as 31-year-old Darnel Govia of Phillip’s Village.
     
    The release also stated that one person is in custody and the police are encouraging any person who might have information with regards to this incident to go forward and share it with them.
     
    “Information can be passed to Violent Crimes Unit at 869-467-1886, 1887, or 1888, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS) or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on your Smartphone,” it added. 
     
    Reports reaching SKNVibes stated that while Govia was at the hospital waiting on a friend, who was in the Laboratory, an unidentified gunman entered the medical institution in search of him.
     
    However, on seeing the gunman, Govia began running in the direction of the Laboratory.
     
    The gunman reported gave chase, caught up with him and fired multiple shots in his direction.
     
    He later succumbed to his injuries.
     
    This is the second time individuals had been shot and killed at the JNF General Hospital.
     
    On the evening of Monday, September 22, 2014, while 19-year-old Kaheel Herbert of Lower Thibou Avenue was in the Waiting Room of the Accident and Emergency Department seeking treatment to a wound, two armed men reportedly entered the room and shots him multiple times in the presence of staff and patients. 
     
    Darnel Govia’s death has taken to 16 the number of homicides committed in the Federation for this year; six on Nevis and 10 on St. Kitts.
