Murder accused attempts suicide in police lockups

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A police press release issued this afternoon (Jun. 20) stated that at approximately 11:40 last night, a person in custody at the Basseterre Police Station attempted to take his own life.

     

    “Upon discovery of this attempt, a Police Officer initiated a medical emergency. The person was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for medical observation, and later detained under watch for other observations,” the release said.. 
     
    It also informed that the officer was commended for his adherence to the prisoner control procedures and for responding quickly to the incident.

    Police did not provide the name of the person, but SKNVibes was informed that it was 18-year-old Travien Liddie of St. Johnson’s Village, who was charged yesterday with the alleged murder of 17-year-old Leanna Napoleon.

    According to sources, Liddie was in a cell at the Basseterre Police Station when he attempted to kill himself.

    Liddie was transported to the hospital, where he was examined and detained under guard in the Psychiatric Ward.
