Police Officer slapped with rape charge

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONCE again the image of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has come under the public’s microscope as one of its members was slapped with a rape charge.

Yesterday (Jun. 22), Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley had confirmed postings in social media that a Police Officer held for questioning in relation to accusation of sexually assaulting a female.

The Commissioner had said: “What is true is that one of our Officers is currently under investigation after allegations were made in relation to a sexual offence.”

Following that investigation, a police communiqué issued today stated that the officer was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offence of rape, which stemmed from an incident that occurred on Sunday (Jun. 18).

He was suspended from duty pending the outcome of the case.

In recent times, a number of Police Officers were charged with criminal offences, including the smuggling of drugs into Her Majesty’s Prison.

On Friday (May 12), Constable Kerin Cabey and Private Lovell Warner of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force were charged with larceny and both of them were suspended with immediate effect pending the outcome of the case.

They had allegedly robbed a businessman in Nevis of US$600 on Thursday, January 12, 2017.
