(EMU) – St. Kitts, June 27th, 2017 -- A representative from the Catholic University of America (CU) is currently in the Federation consulting with the Ministry of Education to develop an Education Sector Plan policy with special consideration being given to the area of ICT.
Dr. Martha Cruz Zuniga, Director of Economics Programs at CU during her four day visit, which started on Monday June 26th through to Thursday 29th, is meeting with all stakeholders within Education, ICT and private firms, inclusive of senior government officials, administrators, teachers, parents, students and personnel directly involved with ICT.
“It is a great opportunity for us to use our technical skills while trying to help the country; make a difference; and have an impact that can potentially affect the lives of students in the future,” stated Dr. Cruz explaining the importance of ICT and the call for it to be fully integrated into all aspects of Education.
This initial visit by the CU is the first for the Ministry of Education on a list of activities to strengthen the education sector in holistic ICT integration. “This trip is to gain a scope from the stakeholders where they see the use of ICT, the implementation, the main challenges, priorities and goals. From this feedback we collect ideas on how to design the policy that will incorporate and be inclusive of all the stakeholders,” assured Dr. Cruz.
The University has also committed its assistance in various aspects of the Education Sector Plan. These include the development of an ICT integration policy, providing assistance with designing and evaluating ICT integration programs, assisting with research and evaluation needs as well as providing assistance in curriculum and assessment development.
