PLP National Executive and members attend worship service at Word of Life New Testament Church of God

By: Peter Ngunjiri, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, July 10, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Prime Minister and Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, has thanked the Word of Life New Testament Church of God on Central Street in Basseterre for welcoming the PLP Leadership and Membership to worship in its sanctuary.

Dr Harris made the remarks on Sunday July 9 when he was invited by Bishop Matthew Hepburn to greet the congregation. He was accompanied by the PLP’s Deputy Political Leader, and Deputy Speaker Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, and other members of the PLP Executive and Membership. They were joined by His Excellency Ambassador Michael Powell.

“I wish to say a hearty thank you to this church for its warm welcome it has given to us each and every time we have come to worship with you,” said the Prime Minister. “On behalf of all of us who have gathered visiting today, I say thank you.”

He introduced other members of PLP National Executive who were with him, including the National Secretary Ms Myrtilla Williams, Deputy National Chairman Mr Craig Tuckett, Deputy National Secretary Mr Christophe Greaux, PLP Women’s Arm Representative Mrs Sonia Henry, PLP Youth Arm Representative Mr Manasses Huggins, and PLP Number Two Branch Chairman Mr Cante Bowry.

“We are a mixed group of talented energetic young people who have a mission for the country,” said Prime Minister Harris. “We understand that it is not always the perfect one but we are mindful of the country to which we want to return and we wish to live. I ask that the church continue to pray for the leadership of the government, but most importantly to pray for the peace and prosperity of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Bishop Matthew Hepburn introduced Prime Minister and Members of the Peoples Labour Party saying that the church was glad that they had answered to the church’s invitation to come and worship there. Before he called on Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris to greet the church congregation, he asked Sister Shirley Williams to render a song. She introduced her song, as the Anchor that Holds and stated that it was the Prime Minister’s favourite.

“Shirley Williams did a wonderful selection, the Anchor Holds, and that applies to our country, and that applies to each and every one of us,” said Prime Minister Harris. “There are moments when the going gets rough, when we have to again reflect upon where is the Anchor.”

He told the congregation that the Anchor is Jesus who is Lord, noting that while everything else may not be intact God is always firm and perfect and so if everyone were to hold upon that Anchor the difficulties that are experienced by people as individuals and as a country would be dealt with by the Anchor. He thanked Sister Shirley for reminding everyone of the Anchor.

“For me as a leader of the country, I put my trust in God,” Prime Minister Harris told the congregation. “I thank the people who have been with me and our prayer group of warriors for time and time again it has been difficult knowing that the Anchor holds and helps me to reconnect both with the people, with my God and the country I love.”

During his sermon, Bishop Matthew Hepburn told the congregation that, as the general overseer of the Church of God, he had been mandated to put back in the church what the church appeared to have lost. He noted that his church is Pentecostal in nature and experience but was Holiness in lifestyle.

“We have our vision and mission statement on the side of the church for all of you the members of this church, who do not know what the New Testament Church of God is all about,” advised Bishop Matthew. “I like the part that says, holiness to be God’s standard of living for His people.”

He added: “Holiness to be God’s standard of living for His people, and as a matter of fact the Word of God says, without holiness no man can see God. So it is not about church membership, it is about your relationship with Jesus Christ, because if you have a relationship with Jesus Christ you know that Jesus is holy and for me to be in a relationship with Him, I must be holy, nothing less.”

He told the congregation that he loved the Prime Minister and respected the Office of the Prime Minister. He reminded the Church to pray for the Prime Minister and encouraged the Prime Minister to ask God for wisdom.
