Increased presence by security forces is a display of resolve in fighting crime. Citizens in full support of the effort

By: (RSCNPF), Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 19, 2017 (RSCNPF): Citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis have expressed their full support for the ongoing increased presence of the Security Forces in our communities over the last few weeks.

Callers to the Police Radio Program "Policing With You" have expressed their support and appreciation for the increased presence and the up-tempo of Operations being carried out by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force with its partners, the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force and the K-9 assets of Her Majesty's Customs Service.

Highlighting what the callers have noted,  Assistant Commissioner of  Police Terrance James,  Head of the Operations Directorate, and the lead planner for the increased Operations said,   "over the last few weeks, combined patrol teams of Police Officers, Defence Force members and K-9 units from both the Police and Customs Service have been conducting ongoing Search Operations in a number of communities."

According ACP James,  these operations by a number of units within the Police Service and with the help of our partners are geared to one thing, "our focus is on ensuring Citizen Safety" said the ACP.  He added, "our teams have been doing four (4) to six (6) Search Warrant executions per day, teams are out searching abandoned properties and vacant lots, derelict vehicles, and other possible hiding spots for illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs. Our teams are continuing our marijuana eradication efforts, and just to note this week we burned over four thousand plants that were confiscated. "

He went on to note, "the Special Services Unit,  the Anti-Drug Unit, the Anti-Gang Task Force (Police, SKNDF and Customs) and the Task Force in Nevis Division have been executing a number of Search Warrants on properties suspected to be the bases of  criminal enterprise. I can share since the increased operations, we have had the seizure of  four illegal firearms and ammunition since June 27."

ACP James also shared that officers of the three Policing Districts are on the Federation\s  roadways conducting Vehicle Check Points, Stop and Searches and other engagements with the motoring public.  He said, "I want to express our appreciation for the cooperation by drivers, I know sometimes we may delay you a bit, but it's all part and parcel of ensuring Citizen Safety".

"I am encouraged by the feedback we are getting from the Community,  they have chastised us when we have fallen short, and my men appreciate the feedback we are getting with our increased presence," said Commissioner of Police Mr Ian M. Queeley as he commented on the ongoing operations. He also mentioned that in an effort to give greater efficiency to the support from the Defence Force in these Operations, Special Powers were granted to the members of the Defence Force as was done in the past.

Commissioner Queeley added, "I urge to public to continue to support our efforts,  together we can make a difference,  you can do your part by passing any information you may have regarding crime or criminal activity to the  Police. I want to echo, If you see something, Say Something."

Residents and Citizens can share any information they may have with regards to crime and criminal activity. Citizens can do so by calling any Police Station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on a Smartphone.
