Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 21, 2017 (SKNIS): In an effort to keep pedestrians safe and assist with the issue of speeding, the Traffic Department has once again taken the initiative to install speed bumps, this time, on the road between Phillips Village and Molineux, on Saturday, July 22.

“The placement of the speed bumps is a precautionary measure for the safety of pedestrians, and particularly children, walking along this road. People of the community have complained repeatedly about speeding by some motorists when driving along this road,” said Osmond Petty, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, while making a special appeal for vehicular traffic to take precautions.  “Motorists using this road are asked to take note and to drive with due care and attention to the speed bumps when using this road.”

He noted that the installation of the speed bumps is in response to repeated requests from members of the community in Molineux, and as part of the community policing response and actions to problems identified in communities.

Mr. Petty added that an initiative of this nature is important and urged persons not to tamper with or attempt to destroy them.

In 2015, similar work was done by the Traffic Department, in conjunction with the Public Works Department, where a number of speed bumps along specific roads were installed as a means of promoting safety of both motorists and pedestrians.

Two speed bumps were placed along the road with the Tucker Clark Primary School, two along the road that leads to the Seventh Day Adventist School, four along the road in front of both the Washington Archibald High School and Beach Allen Primary School, and the remaining two were installed at Upper College Street Ghaut.
