BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, July 22, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- In accordance with the Constitution of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), general membership of the PLP Constituency Number Three (West Basseterre) Branch has  endorsed names of persons who had been nominated to the Branch Executive.

At a meeting held on Wednesday July 19 evening at the OOJJ’s Complex in Camps, and which was also attended by the Peoples Labour Party’s National Political Leader and Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, the general membership unanimously endorsed the team under the chairmanship of Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett.

Also present at the meeting was the Peoples Labour Party’s Deputy National Chairman Mr Craig Tuckett.

“We decided to have the general meeting of all the persons that would have signed up for membership in our membership drive before we had the PLP National Convention and tonight what we are trying to do is just to reassure persons that yes, PLP is present in Constituency Number Three,” stated Hon Byron-Nisbett, who is also the National Deputy Political Leader of the PLP.

“What we are seeking tonight is to be able to endorse this executive so that moving forward we will be able to have the executive that would be able to organise and plan the necessary activities for the constituency.”

According to Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, there were a number of names that had been identified to fill each of the positions and “what we tried to do was ensure we had persons that stretched across the entire constituency from Boyd’s to West Farm, Trafalgar, Lime Kiln, to Shadwell - everybody was included.”

Those named in the PLP Constituency Number Three Executive were: Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, Chairperson; Mr Eugene Dias, Deputy Chairperson; Ms Crystal Boyles, Secretary; Ms Trista Wattley, Assistant Secretary; Mr Clive Jr Nias, Treasurer; Ms Carmen Henry, Women’s Arm; and Ms Kishima Woolard, Youth Representative.

Polling Division Representatives were: 1 - Ms Renée Taylor; 2 - Ms Jacinth Francis; 3 - Mr Dennis Williams; 4 - Ms Carol Clarke; 5 - Mr Valentine Russell & Mrs Angela Lewis; and 6 - Ms Marizta Dias.

Others were Members of the PLP National Executive, who are from Constituency Number Three: Mr Victor Earle, the National Treasurer; Mr Antonio Maynard, Founding Member and Advisor; Mr Damien Weekes, one the Youth Arm Representative; Ms Claudette Thompson, the Assistant National Treasurer; and Mr Alexis Nisbett, Founding Member and the PLP National Organiser.

While noting that Number Three was getting a fresh start, the PLP Branch Chairperson told the membership: “It is about us being able to ensure that Number Three, as one of the major constituencies in the Federation, have our foot in the door, that the constituency needs are met, and to remind all that yes we are present and thus be able to get to that place where Number Three has a voice.”

In congratulating the general membership of the PLP Constituency Number Three Branch, National Political Leader Dr the Hon Timothy Harris said: “I want to thank the people of West Basseterre, our supporters, our well-wishers for coming out tonight and to help us to make a fresh start and to move forward.”

He implored them to work together while recognising each other’s strength and weaknesses to ensure that where they are strong they help to build those who are not as strong as they are. He requested them not to look back at what would have happened at the last elections because they would not make the progress that is required to move the party forward.

“I want to say we have to come together as we have been doing as a group, building on what we have so that the future can be more positive,” advised Dr Harris. “The experience of working together in unity must encourage all of us to see ourselves as citizens of the country, deserving a fair share and a fair chance to have a better quality of life and to have a government on which we could rely upon.”

He was cheered when he said: “Feel the pulse, and the energy of the people in Number Three that the constituency is within our grasp that we intend to do all that we reasonably can do to ensure that when the elections are next called Number Three would be among the seats that will be with PLP and will be under the Team Unity banner.”

The Peoples Labour Party is one of the three parties in the ruling Team Unity Administration, the others being People’s Action Movement (PAM) and the Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM).

“I would want to encourage this group, as I must encourage every group, let us think more about the solutions,” said the PLP National Political Leader. “There are enough problems for each of us to take one, there are not enough solutions coming forward and we want to have honest reflections on the solution that is coming forward.”

Dr Harris Concluded: “Hopefully we leave here more united or with a commitment to unite so that we can move forward. We have to, when things go wrong, resolve to make them right going forward - going forward because only the future is left for us. Only the future there is to consecrate.”
