    -  Young cricketers in Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Lucia get coached up

Monday, July 31, 2017 – Castries, St. Lucia: Bursting with talent and enthusaism for the game, young cricketers in Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Lucia took full advantage of an opportunity to not only showcase their skills but also learn from and be mentored by coaches and players from the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchises. They were part of the Digicel Big Brother programme which focuses on ensuring that young cricketers are technically sound in batting, bowling,  fielding and, above all, attitude.

The highlight was St. Lucia, where things took an exciting twist as it featured all girls – a first for any cricket programme across the Caribbean. The girls were coached by Darren Sammy, captain of the CPL team, St. Lucia Stars.

Cheering on the participants, Digicel Head of Sponsorship, Ben Bradley, said; “The programme is doing great so far and this goes beyond the training and coaching. This is all about the kids and after seeing the smiles and look on their faces in awe of the cricketers, you know it’s all worth it.”

Calling it an “awesome experience”, young St. Lucian cricketer, Silva Augustin, shared; “Firstly, it was wonderful. I already knew how to bat but from listening and learning from players like Darren Sammy I know I have some ways to go. Overall, it was fun and exciting. I always wanted to have cricket as a career and now I know what it takes.”

The Big Brother programme rolls into Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago on Monday, July 31, where training sessions will be led by players from CPL teams - the Jamaica Tallawahs and Trinbago Knight Riders respectively.
