BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – KATHRON ‘CUCHI’ FORTUNE, the fugitive who was captured by officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force after being on the lam for more than 17 months, was this evening (Aug. 4) deported to St. Maarten.

Information reaching SKNVibes states that a press release issued by the St. Maarten Police Force (KPSM) indicated that the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the Dutch island was informed that “the Public Prosecutor on Saint Kitts and Nevis brought Fortune before the summary court in Saint Kitts & Nevis. The summary court ruled that Fortune gained illegal entry into the territory of Saint Kitts and Nevis and – subsequently - ruled that Fortune should be deported as an illegal alien”.

The release also stated that “an order to deport Fortune was signed by the Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis”.

It further stated that because Fortune, a Grenadian by birth but has Dutch nationality and had escaped from lawful custody in St. Maarten, the authorities on St. Kitts and Nevis had decided to have him returned to the Dutch island.

It was reported that Fortune was serving a 21-year sentence at the Point Blanche Prison in St. Maarten for the cold-blooded murder of 22-year-old Ervin Margarita on May 11, 2006 in Rice Hill Estate, but he had escaped on Monday, February 15, 2016 during a scheduled visit to Dr. Paul de Windt’s office on Welgelegen Road in Cay Hill.

Reports also stated that while at the doctor’s office under two escorts, he managed to get hold of a firearm, took off on foot and was picked up by an unmarked vehicle.

It is also said that since his escape, Fortune has been fingered in five other murders on St. Maarten.

He was however captured on Saturday (Jul. 29) by officers from District ‘B’ who had responded to the sighting of an unusual activity along the coastline in Cranstoun Bay, an area in the vicinity of Newton Ground.

Police said initial investigations determined that Fortune had illegally entered the Federation and in his possession were a high-powered rifle (Bushmaster) with telescopic stock, a bulletproof vest, a backpack containing a quantity of cured marijuana, hashish [a marijuana derivative] and a sum of US currency.

The fugitive was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. He was also charged with illegal entry into the Federation, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to supply.

He was remanded at Her Majesty’s Prison.

According to 721News, the prison escapee had arrived on St. Maarten by aircraft around 8:00 p.m. this evening.

And according to the Dutch authorities’ release, Kathron ‘Cuchi’ Fortune was taken back to the Point Blanche Prison where he would serve the remainder of his 21-year sentence for the murder of Margarita.
