BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A man, said to have residences in Newtown and Greenlands, is currently in police custody after the vehicle in which he was late yesterday afternoon (Aug. 5) had allegedly contained a quantity of cocaine.

According to a police communiqué, discovery of the “ready-for-sale cocaine” (29 dime bags) was made by members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force during a Stop and Search Operation in the Southeast Peninsula and one man was detained.

Subsequently, members of the Special Services Unit and the Anti-Drug Unit had executed search warrants on properties in Newtown and Greenlands, which were identified as residences of the detained man.

At the Newtown property, the officers reportedly discovered a large quantity of marijuana and a search of the property in Greenlands resulted in the find of a large quantity of cocaine and two illegal firearms with ammunition.

One of the firearms is said to be a Smith and Wesson .40 pistol and the other a .380 pistol.

The discovery has taken to 32 the number of illegal firearms removed from the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis for this year.

Commenting on the discoveries, Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley was in high praise of the officers and reiterated his call for citizens and residents to join in the fight against crime.

“I want to commend our combined team of Police and Defence Force members for their continued resolve to ensure Citizen Safety in St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Today, their vigilance paid off. A quantity of illegal drugs were seized, and two illegal firearms and a number of rounds taken from our community. Our officers are demonstrating their resolve. I ask the community to join us and together we will continue to make a difference.”

The police are encouraging citizens and residents to go forward and share any information they might have with regards to crime and criminal activity, and they could do so by calling any police station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on a Smartphone.
